Article 26: The impact of social media in today's hip hop.

So things change, times evolve, but the more things change the more they stay the same, but the only thing that is constant is change.

The fashion scene, architects, even the hair and accessory scene, and the music game is also in its own transitional and changing stages. We see old trends going out and new sounds taking over.
While a lot of things remain the same, many change with the times. The music scene has for a good part changed. New soun, new way of recordin, producing and distributing music is all thanks to technology. The phenomenon that technology is has enables me to be able to get music from the US as soon as it is released. Availability and accessability of music around the world is amazing.
Artists now post new songs weeks on weeks on weeks on social mediums for public consumption, but is the public really taking in the music and listening? Is this a futile exercise? How do you artists keep track of all this? What does putting a track out there and posting up a link on every group you are a part of help?
That shit is really annoying because evrypne does it, and I know because it annoys the fuck out of me. A person I hardly know sending me links? Why the hell would I give up my time and click on that link just because its there? You think I would do that after O have seen and still see nothing potentially making you different? Releasing music is easy, it gets hard when you go about it in the wrong way. Be different first, work with people from different fields of expertise. If your sole purpose is to record a song and give it away and not even care how long you should promote it then you should get out of the studio and give the right people a chance to work on their projects. Releasing a song goes further than uploading it online, you have to make sure that people are listening and talking about it.
If you drop a song to me, do you stop to consider if Im your target market? Do you even know your target market? Many rappers just apply that rule of just throwing stuff out there and hoping someone listens. Now doing that, how will you know who your target market is? How will you know who is downloading your stuff because you need to know that peraon so you know they will buy your tape or album.
You need to have a circle, or a method that helps you understand your direction, your market and your progress. You need to know that Facebook aint your only hustle; it is there to help you advance if you are paying attention. Its just one of the many platforms that are there to help you as an artist to get word out.
Its not where you do everything, because you can be big on Facebook but shit on the streets.
Social media have made artists lazy in a way. Ya'll now spend your time hustling for 'Likes' and links you seem to be forgeting that the real hustle is out there. You go hustle then promote your art on social networks. Everything cannot be done on these mediums, it cannot be achieved there.
